Data collection for end of Key Stage Statutory and Optional Assessments

Academic Year 2023-2024

The Standards and Testing Agency (STA) have confirmed the assessment dates for Primary Assessment for 2023-2024. They have also published the dates for future assessment periods.

Reception baseline (RBA)

RBA is a statutory assessment that has been in place since September 2021. Schools need to complete the assessment within the first six weeks of a child starting Reception. No numerical data is shared, and the results will be used to track progress to the end of Year 6. Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP)

STA have confirmed that schools will submit the EYFSP data as normal this year. The Foundation Stage Profile remains unchanged with children being assessed against all 17 Early Learning Goals. The first 12 of these then give the judgement of Good Level of Development (GLD) The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile Handbook has been updated and is available here: Early years foundation stage profile handbook - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) We do advise that all staff in Early Years download and read this guidance.

Schools will submit their EYFSP data to the Local Authority. We have set a soft deadline of Tuesday 25th June ahead of the final deadline of 28th June 2024

Phonics Year 1 and Year 2

Phonic screening checks for children in Year 1 and children who did not meet the required standard in Year 2, will take place in the summer term. The dates the check can be administered are Monday 10th June to Friday 14th June. School should plan to administer the check during that week. There is a timetable variation week from Monday 17th June to Friday 21st June. This is only to be used for children who were absent. All year 2 pupils who did not pass the screening check with at least a score of 32 or who were absent in year 1 must take the check as well. Schools will need to submit phonics data for all pupils In Y1 and Y2 who sit the check to the Local Authority. We have set a 'soft' deadline of Tuesday 25th June and a final deadline of Friday 28th June.

Multiplication Check

The Multiplication Times Table Check is a statutory check for all children in Year 4. This must be administered during the check period of Monday 3rd June – Friday 14th June. Schools can use the following week Monday 17th June – Friday 21st June for children who were absent. Schools return the data for this through the MTC service and not to the Local Authority. Key Stage 2

The full suite of statutory end of Key Stage 2 tests and assessments continue this summer. The dates for the KS2 SATS are Monday 13th May – Thursday 16th May. Further guidance relating to the tests is available here: National curriculum assessments: key stage 2 tests - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) Test Administration Guidance and Guidance Notes for Readers will be published during March. We strongly advise all staff involved in the administration and organisation of the Key Stage 2 tests read these and has a clear understanding of what they can and cannot do.

Key Stage 2 Teacher Assessment Data

Schools will need to submit Teacher Assessment data via the Primary Assessment Gateway (PAG). ALL children will need a judgement for writing and science. Children who have been marked as B on the test register for working Below the standard of the tests ALSO need a teacher assessment judgement for reading and maths.

We strongly urge schools to submit their data to the PAG earlier than the final deadline and to support this we have set a soft deadline of Tuesday 25th June ahead of the DfE deadline of Friday 28th June. The Primary Assessment Gateway tends to become slower the nearer to data submission deadline so please consider this when deciding when to enter your data.
