In Pendle, we have been working closely with local communities and stakeholders to develop the plans for the area.

The three Safer, Greener, Healthier Streets projects in Pendle will improve local streets to make travel easier between homes, jobs, shops and services, and help make streets safer and more accessible for everyone.

Since autumn 2023 we've worked together with the local community to develop the final proposals for the Levelling Up East Lancashire programme.

The insights from these activities helped us shape and improve plans to deliver schemes that matter to local people. 

We worked with local stakeholders and communities to co-design the plans. We carried out wider engagement, including workshops and route visits, to understand local community priorities for the proposed interventions.

What people in Pendle told us 

During the online engagement and in-person events, we had a number of requests to change the proposals:

For the Nelson SGHS project, we added speed cushions on Holly Street, and extended the school keep clear road markings to Athol Street, improving safety for people using the footpath. 

In the Walverden Primary School area, we reversed the proposed direction for one-way traffic on Holly Street, provided dropped kerbs and tactiles, and improved the existing raised table at the Athol Street/Temple Street junction.

In the Marsden Community Primary School area, we reversed the direction of the proposed one-way system.
