Brierfield - Safer, greener, healthier streets project

Improvements to local streets in Brierfield focus on Arthur Street and Walter Street, and on Walter Street in front of Pendle Primary Academy.

Along the Arthur Street-Walter Street route, we are creating a safer environment for people to walk, cycle or wheel to local destinations. 

Following feedback we have removed the raised give way sign on Walter Street. 

We will raise the road to meet the kerb level (known as a raised table), with tactile paving at junctions and priority give ways. The aim is to help to manage traffic flows and reduce speeds, prioritise pedestrians, and improve overall road safety.  

A new signal pedestrian and cyclist crossing on Halifax Road will help people heading to and from the town centre.  

Tree and shrub planting will be introduced at selected areas where the pavement has been widened. 

In front of Pendle Primary Academy, a new area will support the safety of parents and children walking to school, creating a pedestrian friendly and less car dominated environment with new trees, shrubbery, and seating. The paved space in front of the school will be improved, including tree and shrub planting, and a new set of stairs from Crabtree Street.

A raised table will be provided at the existing crossing on Burnley Road, near Crabtree Street, will improve pedestrian safety and reduce traffic speeds.
