Speech, Language Communication

Tots Talking

The Tots Talking programme was designed and developed by Speech and Language UK with a group of parents and carers of 2-year-old children.

The aim of Tots Talking is to improve communication skills in two-year-olds. This is done by sharing information with parents and carers and encouraging use of language and behaviours which research suggests supports children in talking and understanding words.

Talk Boost - Speech and Language UK: Changing young lives

Early Talk Boost

Early Talk Boost is an intervention program that narrows the gap between 3 to 4 year olds with language delay and their peers. It is delivered by a trained Early Years practitioner to up to 8 children. Initial findings show that after Early Talk Boost, children make statistically significant progress in their early language. On average they make 6 months progress after a nine week intervention helping them to catch up with other children their age. This is twice the amount of progress of children not having the intervention.

Talk Boost Key Stage 1

Talk Boost KS1 is a targeted programme for 4-7 year old children that need help with talking and understanding words, including children in Reception classes. The programme is delivered in primary schools by classroom teachers and teaching assistants and provides a structured programme that boosts children’s progress in language and communication by an average of 9 – 18 months after a ten week intervention.

Talk Boost Key Stage 2

Talk Boost KS2 is a targeted programme aimed at children 7-10 year old children who need help with talking and understanding words, aiming to boost their language skills helping them to catch up with their peers. The programme aims to accelerate children’s progress in language and communication after 8 weeks.

Talk for Work

Talk for Work is an evidenced targeted intervention that helps students aged 14 to 18 with difficulties in talking and understanding words to be ready for the workplace. It can be used in both secondary schools and Further Education colleges.

The programme consists of a series of 13 fully planned one-hour lessons delivered by trained teaching or support staff.
