UK Armed Forces Veterans

Key points

• In the Lancashire-12 area 44,061 persons have been identified as previously serving in the UK armed forces, 4.35% of the population aged 16 or over
• The armed forces veterans total for the Lancashire-14 area is 53,567, 4.29% of the population aged 16 or over.

For the first time in a Census, the 2021 questionnaire included a question on former service in the UK armed forces. The 'UK armed forces veterans data, England and Wales: Census 2021' published in November 2022 includes the following datasets: Previously served (person) in the UK armed forces, Previously served (household) in the UK armed forces, Previously served in communal establishments and in households, & Household Reference Person indicator.
