We would like to assure everyone attending Coroner's Court that all of our Courts have been assessed by Health and Safety and are compliant with the COVID guidance in terms of social distancing, mask wearing, hand cleansing and the courts are cleaned between each inquest. Instructions on how to safely access the premises will be given on arrival and all attendees will be expected to wear a mask on entry to, and while moving about the Court venue.
Gatherings of more than six people are permitted for the purposes of work and specifically to fulfil a legal obligation, such as attending court or jury service. The Coroner has also determined for a variety of reasons that legal hearings undertaken over zoom or teams are not suitable for a large majority of inquests. The guidance states that people living inside and outside of the very high alert level areas can continue to travel in and out of the areas for work.
Due to social distancing rules we have limited space for people attending the Coroner's Court in all venues. If you have NOT been called to a hearing but are intending to observe please advise the Coroner's Service immediately on 01772 536536. Too many attendees may cause the hearing to be postponed which could cause distress to the bereaved people involved in the case.
