Who is this course for?

This course is intended for any person who works with or can access personal, confidential and / or sensitive information.

Introduction

This Information Governance course will help to ensure that all people working with sensitive and personal data are aware of their responsibilities under law to keep that information safe and secure, and to know how, when and to whom information can be given or withheld.

NB Prevent/Information Governance/CSE eLearning are only counted as one course regardless of completing 1 or all 3 courses.

Content

This course contains the following 4 modules:

  • A New Data Protection Regime - Introduction and Background
  • GDPR Definitions and Principles
  • Information Security
  • Freedom of Information Act

Objectives

In this course you will learn:

  • The key differences between the current data protection regime and the new one
  • The primary aim of the new legislation
  • Who the legislation applies to and how they will be affected
  • What is meant by personal data and special category data
  • Why protecting personal data is important
  • What the core data protection principles are
  • The improved rights for individuals
  • The new conditions for consent
  • Who administers the penalties
  • The importance of keeping data secure and what needs to be protected
  • The main threats to data and data systems
  • The basics of cyber security
  • Key steps to keeping data secure in the workplace
  • How to protect information whilst working on the move
  • The principles and purpose of the Freedom of Information Act
  • What a Freedom of Information request is
  • What information can be requested and what information is exempt
  • How and why a refused request decision can be challenged

Delivery Method

This is an e-learning programme and can be completed at a time and pace that suits you.

The first time you log on you will need to create an account. This can be done by clicking on the self-register button which is found on the right hand side of the screen.


You will then be taken to the self registration page where you will need to complete the 'user details', It is important you ensure that the options below are used when registering;

Click on the Launch button to begin each module.
