This new course will explore the assessment of reading in Year 2 with a focus on:
• word reading and comprehension skills which are statutory requirements of the National Curriculum
• the application of phonics into reading with a focus on decoding, including tricky words and common exception words
• comprehension development using texts which are read to children, and those they can read themselves
• the reading content domains required for the end of KS1 assessment
• the reading test framework for the end of KS1 assessment

This new course will provide a comprehensive overview for the teaching and assessment of reading in Year 2. It is suitable for all practitioners in Year 2, in particular, any teachers new to the year group.
