The Early Career Framework specifies that Early Career Teachers should learn that metacognitive strategies are an important element of planning and teaching well-structured lessons. Research has shown that metacognition has a significant impact on pupil progress and is an important component of high quality teaching and learning.
This introduction to metacognition will support ECTs in their understanding of metacognition and of strategies that will support learning across the curriculum. The course will examine how lessons can be structured to promote metacognition. Participants will examine the role of effective questioning in reviewing learning and how talk can be used to help pupils reflect on their learning.
