ECTs: Getting to Grips With Planning a Unit of Work in Maths in Mixed Age Classes

• To support teachers in developing effective strategies for planning in mixed age classes.
• To explore how to select and combine objectives from across multiple year group expectations.
• To exemplify the teaching sequence of Assess – Teach – Practise – Apply.
• To identify appropriate progression within mathematical concepts utilising up to date documentation.

This course will support ECTs in planning a coherent and progressive sequence of lessons within a mixed age class. It will consider a range of ideas and strategies to support children’s understanding in mathematics, including effective modelling, use of variation, intelligent practice, reasoning and problem solving. The course will explore and use common resources to enable teachers to identify the appropriate pitch for the time of the year and how to combine objectives across year groups to support the progression towards both end of term and end of year expectations in mixed age classes.

This course is provided at no charge for all ECTs registered with Lancashire County Council as the Appropriate Body as part of our ECT Package, however the full course fee of £189 will be charged in the event of non-attendance or where the ECT is registered with a different Appropriate Body.
