ECTs: Getting to Grips with Support Documents for Primary English and Literacy

• To provide a brief overview of a range of support documents which have been written by Lancashire Professional Development Services to support teaching and learning.
• To consider how these documents can support, planning, whole-class teaching, guided groups and assessment.

This course will feature an overview of the following documents:

Key Learning in Reading and Writing:
The Key Learning in Reading and Writing statements relate to the age appropriate reading skills, knowledge and understanding for each year group. These key pieces of learning will support pupils in becoming effective and reflective independent readers. Further details have also been added to clarify and exemplify the statements in the programmes of study.

LAPS:
The Learning and Progression Steps (LAPS) are designed to scaffold the learning required in order to meet the expectations of the National Curriculum in reading and writing. The learning has been broken down into smaller steps to support teachers in planning appropriate learning opportunities for both whole class and differentiated groups. Documents include: Planning for Progression (Reading); Group Reading Targets; Children’s Targets for Reading; Planning for Progression (Writing); Group Writing Targets and Children’s Targets for Writing.

KLIPS:
KLIPs stands for Key Learning Indicators of Performance. They have been developed by Lancashire Professional Development Service to help schools with their summative assessment judgements for the 2014 National Curriculum year group expectations. KLIPs are available for Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

Updated LPDS English Planning Units:
New overview booklets on the planning process for English, incorporating reading, writing, grammar,spelling and handwriting.

Fast Track Phonics and Bounce Back Phonics:
Fast Track Phonics and Bounce Back Phonics have been developed to support children who did not achieve at the expected level in the Year 1 Phonics Check in Y2/3/4.

Fast Forward Grammar 2:
Fast Forward Grammar 2 has been developed to prepare pupils for the higher expectations in the 2014 National Curriculum and to support them to achieve successfully in the Grammar and Punctuation test at the end of Year 6.

Fast Forward Spelling:
Fast Forward Spelling has been developed to prepare pupils for the higher expectations in the 2014 National Curriculum and to support them to achieve successfully in the Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation test at the end of Year 6
