Participants will:
• create a welcoming environment for children and parents
• the importance of first language and how it can be used in the learning process
• how young children acquire EAL and what challenges are faced by bilingual children
• what typical language development is and how learning English interacts with this
• strategies, resources and materials to support language development

This course is for practitioners and teachers working with EAL learners in nursery settings and reception classes. By the end of the course, participants will have a better understanding of language development and the cultural and linguistic needs of young EAL learners, know how to include and how to support them in adult led activities and continuous provision, and be supported in planning for language development.
