Library services

7. Library charges

You may not be able to use some library services if you have: 

  • Outstanding charges of more than £6 on your account
  • Charges which are more than a month old

Any exemptions from charges will be reviewed on an annual basis. There is currently no online payment facility.

There will be some changes implemented from 1st April 2019 as detailed below.

A loyalty card is available on request. Reserve five books and get the sixth one free.

DVD loan

£1 per week

A loyalty card is available on request. Every sixth DVD/CD loan is free. 

Re-hire charges apply automatically at a daily rate of 17p if item not returned by due date

 DVD-ROM loan

£1.50 per week

Re-hire charges apply automatically at a daily rate of 25p if item not returned by due date

Music and drama performance sets

All loan periods will be 6 months initially, and 3 months optional renewal subject to availability.

Drama set loans: £10

One one-act Play Set loan: £4.   Three one-act play sets loan: £10 (this offer only applies to one-act play sets currently held in stock)

Vocal scores loan: £30 for a set of 40 copies and £1 for every additional copy up to 29 copies after which the price of a full additional set will apply.

Shorter vocal scores loan: £10 for up to 40 shorter vocal scores of the same title (further copies will be charged at the same rate per 40 or part of, eg 50 copies = £20)

Orchestral set loans: £40 for pieces over 40 minutes length; £30 for pieces between 20 and 40 minutes length; £20 for pieces under 20 minutes length.

Renewal charges:

Drama set renewal: £5

Vocal scores renewal: £15

Shorter vocal scores renewal: £5

Orchestral set renewal: £20 for pieces over 40 minutes length; £15 for pieces between 20 and 40 minutes length; £10 for pieces under 20 minutes length.

Lost or damaged items

If an item of library stock is lost or damaged beyond repair a compensation charge is payable.

Evidence required for exemptions from library charges

Long term ill-health or disability:

Your award notification or other written notification from one of the following:

  • Department of Work and Pensions
  • Your GP or representative of the National Health Service
  • A recognised organisation with whom you have links because of your disability

Unable to read or use books because of visual impairment or dyslexia:

  • Official letter from the doctor, optician, hospital, social services, school or similar body
  • Registration document (e.g. registered blind/partially sighted)
  • Dyslexia report
