Road Traffic Collisions 2022
The number of people killed or seriously injured in a road traffic collision in Lancashire have broadly returned to pre-pandemic levels, though are still significantly below what they were ten years ago. Lancashire, when compared with similar Counties has a higher rate of road traffic collisions when population is accounted for. The afternoon school run and evening rush hour are peak times for collisions and casualties. Cyclists make up 9% of casualties and motorbikes 8%. Nearly 1 in 5 casualties are in the 26-35 years age category. Preston has the highest number of casualties of the Lancashire Districts. The two unitary authorities, Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool, have the highest number of child casualties. The main contributory factor is driver or rider error or reaction.
