Countess Street area

This project focuses on improving walking routes to local primary schools, greenspaces, the town centre, and local community facilities such as the leisure centre.

Our improvements will focus on slowing down the traffic using this route, making it safer for people to cross the road. This will involve raising the road to meet the kerb level (known as raised tables) at five junctions along the route.

We will also make the pavement wider on two corners of these junctions, reducing the distance to cross the road. This will also narrow the road, reducing vehicle speeds.

Bollards along the edge of the footways will improve the sight lines for people trying to cross the road, and discourage parking on pavements at the junctions.

This will also provide space for some trees and planting to make the street more attractive.

Park Road is a key route to Hyndburn Primary School. We will make the pavements wider towards the southern end, and introduce bollards to stop people parking on pavements at unsafe locations.

New road markings will stop parking outside the primary school, making the road safer especially at school pick-up and drop-off times.

We will improve the existing Park Road play area by introducing new green space, and improving the greenspace between India Street and Wesley Street with new seating and planting.

Play equipment will be introduced on the green space at Bradshaw Street, along with protective surfacing, improved lighting, seating and cycle parking facilities.

Blackburn Road is a key east-west route on the edge of the estate with a range of shops and a local health centre on it. At the junctions with Persia Street, Swiss Street, Monk Street and Frederick Street, pavements will be resurfaced, new street trees planted and new seating.
