To teach children about food, how to prepare it and the principles of a healthy diet.
The new curriculum aims to make children more aware of the food in their diet and for them to gain practical cookery skills. It has an emphasis on cooking savoury dishes and how to apply the principles of healthy eating and good nutrition.
It is about giving pupils the knowledge needed for their daily lives and recognises that cooking is an important life skill. This will help children to feed themselves and others healthy and affordable food, both now, and in the future. Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill.
Little Chefs is an excellent project that our Year 5 children have thoroughly enjoyed and parents have appreciated. Pupils learned so much about food preparation and nutrition that I have now booked a course for every class in the school!
