Care Leavers Week 2022
Every year we celebrate Care Leavers Week during the October half term holidays. It isn't just Lancashire that celebrate this, events take place right across the country organised by charities like Become and local leaving care services.
The week provides an opportunity to celebrate care leavers amazing achievements and to also see what your Corporate Parents can do to support you.
This year we had a full week of activities and events. We had a discussion panel on the theme of What Does Community Mean to You? Six care experienced young people were joined by county councillors, police commissioner, senior managers and designated nurses to explore the theme and what they can do to help support care leavers. They explored issues such as mental health, housing and identity to name a few.
We then had two fantastic outdoor activity days held at Borwick Hall and Hothersall Lodge with climbing, canoeing, problem solving and archery. Looks like it was two great days out.
The Thursday evening of Care Leavers Week we hosted a celebration evening. We had four award categories which were Positive Achievement, Influencer, Arts and Culture and Make a Difference award. The evening was then topped of with Spin the Wheel. Some lucky young people won prizes including bikes, air fryer, Lush voucher, bowling vouchers, Pizza Express vouchers and lots more. It was a great night and the Street Food was delicious!
At the end of the week different events took place across the district organised by individual leaving care teams.
We're now busy getting all the feedback from the week and will start planning for Care Leavers Week 2023 in the new year. We'll keep you updated and if you'd like to get involved with planning next years events then please speak to your personal adviser.
