School councils and junior road safety ambassadors
We would like Schools at both Primary and Secondary level to consider appointing 2 Ambassadors for Road Safety from within their school council. We aim to provide support materials on our website and a newsletter to enable these ambassadors to advocate for road safety in their school and wider school community.
Rationale:
During 2022-24 many of our Lancashire Primary Schools reported facing local problems with a variety of Road Safety Issues ranging from inconsiderate parking at school drop off and pick up time, to near miss and actual Road Traffic Collisions involving school-age pedestrians. The child killed and seriously injured statistics per 100,000 for Lancashire are almost double the national average.
It is hoped that developing a successful Junior Road Safety Ambassador programme within school ( Road safety Ambassadors at Secondary level) will provide a platform for students to research and learn more about the local issues schools face related to Road Safety and enable them to identify with their wider school communities strategies for positive change. The JRSA (RSA) scheme is intended to enable students to investigate road safety and put key messages across to the wider school community.
