This checklist is a useful tool to help schools and settings ensure that decisions to suspend or permanently exclude a pupil meet the statutory criteria and are lawful, reasonable, fair and proportionate. However, it is not exhaustive, and schools may wish to undertake additional checks or consider other relevant factors depending on the circumstances of the case.
