Course content
Having established our curriculum intent, the next step is to consider how this is brought to life in practice. A curriculum only becomes meaningful when it is implemented through carefully considered learning experiences, interactions, environments and opportunities that support children to make progress over time.
This is where planning plays a vital role.
Effective planning ensures that our curriculum vision is translated into purposeful learning opportunities that are ambitious, sequenced and responsive to children's needs. It helps us build on what children already know and can do, while supporting them to acquire new knowledge, skills and understanding.
We will explore how our curriculum is implemented through:
Long-term planning – the broad overview of what we want children to learn over time.
Medium-term planning – the key learning priorities, experiences and opportunities that support curriculum progression through the careful monitoring and tracking of children's progress.
Short-term planning – the day-to-day responsive practice, interactions and experiences that meet children's individual needs and interests.
Together, these layers of planning ensure that children experience a curriculum that is coherent, meaningful and progressive, enabling them to continually know more, do more and remember more.
