Safeguarding adults - eLearning

Who is this course for?

All levels of staff within Lancashire County Council and their linked partner organisations whose role requires them to undertake this training.
Other workers including work experience, casual and agency employees under the control of their employing organisation, who need to be provided with appropriate information with regards to adult protection awareness training.
This training is for all workers and volunteers who have day to day direct contact with adults at risk.

Objectives

This course will enable you to:

  • Know the legal duties to safeguard adults
  • Understand what is meant by adult safeguarding
  • Learn the importance of avoiding risk averse practice
  • Learn the aims of adult safeguarding
  • Know the six principles of safeguarding
  • Learn about ‘person-centred’ and ‘outcomes-focused’ safeguarding practice
  • Know what is meant by abuse
  • Learn who is at risk of abuse
  • Know why a person might abuse another
  • Learn when abuse is more likely to happen
  • Learn about the patterns of abuse
  • Know the different types of abuse and neglect
  • Explain the features of each type of abuse
  • Understand the importance of balancing safeguarding with empowerment
  • Learn what you should do if you suspect abuse or neglect
  • Know how to respond to a disclosure
  • Know what to say to an adult at risk
  • Learn what to do in an emergency
  • Understand the importance of good record keeping
  • Learn what Mental Capacity means
  • Understand the principles of the Mental Capacity Act
  • Understand the implications of the Mental Capacity Act when supporting a vulnerable adult at risk
  • Understand what is meant by 'Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards'

This is an e-learning programme and can be completed at a time and pace that suits you.

How to register for e-learning

To access this training – Click here PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE ALREADY REGISTERED FOR THE CARE ACT E-LEARNING PACKAGE THEN YOU ARE ALREADY AUTOMATICALLY REGISTERED FOR THIS SAFEGUARDING PACKAGE AND DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER AGAIN.

The first time you log on you will need to create an account. This can be done by clicking on the self-register button which is found on the right hand side of the screen.
You will then be taken to the self registration page where you will need to complete the 'user details', please ensure you select the categories that best suits your organisation and you.
Once completed click the 'send login request'.
You will then be taken to the next page which says 'You should now have received an email with a validation link. Please click the validation link to activate your account. Once activated you will receive another email with your login details'.
Click on the link and use the user name and password you have been provided, when you first login you will be prompted to change your password, please create something memorable.
Under My Courses you will see 'Safeguarding Adults - Level 1' click on the Access course button in blue.
Click on the Launch button to begin each module.
