Proactive approach to conflict (Older People Service) - OP0004

Who is this course for?

All new and existing employees at all levels who work in Older People Services residential homes and day time services.


This training should be refreshed every 3 years or as and when required at the managers discretion.

Aims

This programme focuses on the understanding of Positive Behaviour Support / Proactive working as a means of assessment, prevention and prediction of conflict. This focus fulfils the legal requirement of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and all programmes are delivered to the standards of the BILD Code of Practice and current legal guidance. Also meets the requirements of the new CQC Fundamental Standards as well as the new Care Certificate.

Objectives

  • By the end of the course the participant will be able to:
  • Demonstrate awareness of the key aspects of Positive Behavioural Support model of practice (Social Role Valorisation, Applied Behaviour Analysis and Person-Centred Planning)
  • Examine their own behaviour and the way they react in difficult situations.
  • Recognise the impact that their behaviour and approach have on other people's behaviour.
  • Reflect on their communication (Active Listening) that is occurring via behaviour etc, rather than the behaviour itself, is often the key to a successful outcome.
  • Recognise how to be assertive but not aggressive.
  • Define the importance of Safe Positioning and diffusion strategies.
  • Explain how to accurately report and record incidents in line with policy and procedures
