Who is this course for?
This one-day mandatory training is for all the care and management staff in the Residential Teams only working within the Older People Service
Prior to booking and attending this course you must have completed the Autism E-learning Register Here
Aim(s)
This course is aimed at all staff interacting with and supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism, to
- Have a better understanding of autism and learning disability.
- To reflect on own attitudes, values and behaviours.
- Avoid harmful practices (e.g. misdiagnosis, overmedication, anxiety triggers)
- Provide safe, inclusive, person-centred care
- Raise awareness
Objectives
Learning Disability: Morning Session
- Raise awareness from real-life experiences of individuals with a learning disability
- Explore factors and barriers that impact the quality of care and support of individuals with a learning disability
- Be aware of the Learning from Lives and Deaths reviews (LeDeR) key findings
- Identify and apply reasonable adjustments in real settings
- Support and deliver safer, person-centred care
Autism: Afternoon Session
- Be aware of autism
- Reflect on your own values and beliefs
- Recognise potential differences, strengths and challenges faced by individuals with autism
- Identify potential triggers for anxiety
- Identify and implement reasonable adjustments
- Be aware of the legal framework for inclusive enabling services
