Who is this course for?

Foster carers of Children Looked After (CLA), Residential staff supporting Lancashire's CLA, Special Guardianship Order parents of Previously Looked After children. Parents of children on a child in need or child protection plan.

Aim(s)

To support Parent's/carers with confidence to increase the amount of reading at home by the children in their care. To provide skills and activities to help with word reading and comprehension.

Objectives

Participants will be able to

  • Learn the benefits of regular reading with children and by children
  • Tips and strategies to encourage children to read.
  • Understand and support with phonological awareness and decoding -word reading.
  • Know some comprehension strategies and how to support understanding of text.
