Introduction to Trauma Informed Care SCAYT + Day 1 (Formerly known as Therapeutic Caring Day 1) - FC0089

This training is for approved foster carers providing space to explore perspectives on Attachment, Brain Development and develop their skills in Trauma Informed Care. Please note to be eligible for this training you must have a child in placement (for at least 3 months) on the day of the training.

Please note that only the title has changed for this training; it was previously known as 'Therapeutic Caring Day 1' if you have already attended Therapeutic Caring training -Day 1 training previously please do not enrol onto this session.

Some sessions will be delivered virtually. Foster carers enrolling for these sessions will need their own laptop/PC or smart device to log on.

Aims

  • Develop an understanding of their children and their behavioural and emotional needs through an understanding of Attachment Theory, child development and the impact of trauma.
  • Consider the various attachment styles and how this impacts on a child's ability to accept care.
  • Understand the implications of caring for children with trauma and attachment insecurities.
  • Explore ways of applying this understanding to the parenting of the children.
  • Increase their skills and confidence in parenting children with trauma and attachment insecurities

Objectives

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Key aspects of attachment theory.
  • Be more attuned to the care needs of a child with trauma and attachment insecurities.
  • The importance of co-regulation and promoting feelings of safety for the child.
  • The elements of PACE and how to adopt an attitude of PACE within their parenting.
  • How to build a relationship and manage behaviour.
