Who is this course for?
Foster carers , Social workers and support workers from fostering service, social workers and support workers from family safeguarding, children in our care teams and family time workers.
ā Light refreshments will be provided (tea, coffee and biscuits). Please note lunch is not provided.
š¶ Babies in arms are welcome to support carers to attend. Please note there are no facilities available to occupy mobile children or older youngsters.

Aim(s)
The aim of the day will provide carers with practical knowledge, resources, and the opportunity to connect directly with a range of services that support children and families. Whether you are currently caring for a child in this age group or considering for the future, the day will support your knowledge.

This event is an opportunity to ask questions, build relationships with professionals, and gain greater confidence in supporting childrenās physical health, emotional wellbeing, and developmental needs.
Training Day Objectives
By the end of the training day, foster carers will be able to:
- Understand the role and purpose of each service
Gain a clear overview of what the following services do, who they support, and how they fit within the wider childrenās services network:
Children & Family Wellbeing Hubs, School Nursing Team, Holiday Club Services, Independent Visitor Service, LINX, SCAYT, and NEST. - Recognise when and how to access support for children and young people
Identify the specific needs (physical health, emotional wellbeing, mental health, social development, identity, and independence) that each service can support, and understand appropriate referral routes and thresholds. - Build confidence in supporting childrenās physical and emotional wellbeing
Develop greater confidence in responding to childrenās health, emotional, and developmental needs, including understanding preventative support and early help options. - Strengthen partnership working with professionals
Build positive working relationships with practitioners from each service, understand their professional roles, and learn how to communicate effectively and collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for children. - Support childrenās experiences, inclusion, and opportunities
Learn how services such as Holiday Clubs, Independent Visitors, LINX, and NEST can promote social inclusion, enjoyment, resilience, identity, and positive experiences for children and young people in care. - Enhance understanding of specialist and targeted services
Increase awareness of targeted support available through services such as SCAYT and NEST, including when specialist input may be needed and how it complements the foster carer role. - Feel empowered to ask questions and seek advice
Use the training day as a safe opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and clarify uncertainties directly with professionals. - Leave with practical knowledge and next steps
Know who to contact, where to find further information, and how to follow up after the event to ensure children and young people receive timely and appropriate support.
