Change Talks : Mental Health Awareness Training - FC0119

This course is for all foster carers and staff working within children's residential services both the mainstream and overnight breaks services. 

 

Aims

To raise awareness and equip carers with the tools to both look after their own mental health and support other peoples.

Covering topics on.:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Eating disorders
  • Risk taking behaviours


Objectives

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Appreciate an increased awareness on the different mental health issues that can impact young people.
  • Recognise what they can do to support a child in their care who is involved in risk taking behaviours.
  • Recognise why young people are engaging in risk taking behaviours.
  • Feel more confident to start a discussion with a child in their care around topics such as depression, anxiety, risk taking behaviours and eating disorders.

Trainer

The training will be delivered by Sam Tyrer and Dave Cottrell. Sam and Dave both received a national award for their work over lockdown, after creating a very successful weekly webinar series. Sam and Dave also work in schools, delivering training supported by Health Education England. Their work is hoping to be embedded across high schools across the whole county.
