Lancashire County Museum Service cares for important heritage sites and 1.3 million objects related to Lancashire's heritage. This includes a Lancashire Textile Industry Designated Collection and objects related to the county's archaeology, geology, natural history and social history, including decorative and fine art.

Filming Enquiries

For all enquiries about filming at our museum venues the requirements and minimum fees are outlined below. Please ensure you can meet them before contacting a venue.  We aim to respond to your initial enquiry within 5-10 working days. Arranging the full licence and dates takes a minimum of 4 weeks.  

 General filming requirements

  • Lancashire County Council can only permit and licence filming on council properties and land, and it must not impact day to day operations.

  • We require a minimum of 4 weeks' notice for any filming. This is to enable us to understand your requirements, gain necessary approvals, undertake insurance checks, draw up the necessary licence, ensure we have adequate staff to supervise the filming and that it fits with anything already planned at a venue. We are unable to deal with urgent and short notice requests.

  • Filming by third parties may only take place when a museum is closed to the public, please check our opening times. www.lancashire.gov.uk/museums

  • All film companies whether a major film company or small independent require a licence agreement from Lancashire County Council to film. This is produced based on your requirements and drawn up by LCC's Legal Department.

  • We are unable to sign any third-party location agreements, and all companies must comply with the LCC licence agreement and conditions. 

  • All film and TV companies, whether a major film company or independents, require minimum insurance £5 million for PLI and £10 million for Employer Liability cover. 

  • We cannot provide electrical power to any third-party equipment so filmmakers must provide their own power. 

 The following fees and charges can apply, please note this is not an exhaustive list, cost is dependent on each case being assessed for its individual needs, prices quoted are minimum charge and subject to change. The location fee is dependent on the use of our site, scale of production, the impact filming will have on our activities, staff time and any supervision requirements. All fees must be paid on issuing of the licence and before filming goes ahead.

  • Estates Fee £250 plus VAT to confirm requirements and arrangements  

  • Legal fee of £600 plus VAT to draw up the contract with an LCC solicitor

  • Location fee for use of the museum £150 plus VAT per hour.
