  • Steph Johnson (Senior Teaching and Learning Consultant)

This package will provide opportunities for the Headteacher and SENDco to:
- Consider what is meant by ordinarily available provision/universal.
- Focus on what effective ordinarily available provision should be, regarding a range of typical challenges faced by mainstream schools.
- Audit current provision
- Identify areas for action

Schools are facing the increasing challenge of providing inclusive education for a growing number of children with SEND. Budgets are tight and services are stretched, so how can we make sure our classrooms and learning opportunities are as inclusive as possible?
"An inclusive school removes barriers to learning and participation." (EEF: SEND in Mainstream Schools)
STEPLAB highlights five guiding principles designed to reframe our approach to everyday classroom practice. "These principles … offer a coherent, classroom-based suite of strategies to improve educational experiences and outcomes for all students, especially those with SEND."
This course will examine practical strategies for removing barriers to learning and developing inclusive practice throughout the school.
The package is designed for Headteachers and SENDcos to attend the equivalent of three full days training, together, over a year. The first two courses (equivalent to two full days) will be for all delegates to attend followed by a choice to two additional elective sessions. (Should the school wish to attend more electives, these are available at a discounted rate of £55 per session, for schools buying into the package.)
It is strongly advised that the Headteacher and SENDco attend sessions together to allow for impactful reflection, discussion and action planning. In order to facilitate this, the cost is heavily discounted to £999 per school.
The sessions will outline good practice and models of effectiveness. They will also signpost further training opportunities should schools wish to explore particular areas further.

The sessions will be as follows:
Day 1 - High Quality Teaching for Children with SEND - All Delegates - Part 1 - 6.10.26 am; Part 2 - 13.10.26 am
"Pupils with SEND have the greatest need for excellent teaching and are entitled to provision that supports achievement at, and enjoyment of, school….. This means understanding the needs of individual pupils and weaving specific approaches into everyday, high-quality classroom teaching - being inclusive by design not as an afterthought." Professon Becky Francis EEF.
