Great Teaching courses are powered by the latest evidence based research, giving schools the tools to ignite, strengthen, and sustain outstanding teaching and learning.
This course will:
• Showcase practical, classroom ready examples of what effective explicit teaching and modelling look like in action.
• Unpack the latest evidence and research, drawing on insights from Ofsted, Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, and the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF).
• Demonstrate how explicit teaching strengthens learning for all pupils, including those who need additional support or challenges.
• Explore powerful cognitive strategies, such as faded and worked examples, and how they can be applied effectively across the curriculum.

This course will run over two sessions to prevent cognitive overload and to allow for gap tasks.

The EEF identify 'Explicit Instruction' as one of the five-a-day elements that will have a positive impact on learning and Barack Rosenshine includes 'provide models' and 'check for student understanding' in his Principles of Instruction.

This course will consider different sources of research to identify the common principles of explicit instruction and delegates will be given examples of how models can be used in lessons. During the course, delegates will have the opportunity to consider their own lessons and apply these strategies to improve teaching and learning.
