  • Caroline Yabantu (Teaching and Learning Consultant - Primary English)

This course will consider:
- the link between early language development and reading;
- how phonological awareness plays an essential role in early language development;
- how phonemic awareness, alongside quality texts and vocabulary exposure, develops pupils' language acquisition and supports learning to read; and
- common SEN around communication and language and early reading and guidance on how to recognise these needs, including practical strategies for supporting pupils.

This brand new course is aimed at schools who use PIVATS to assess small steps of progress and who want to develop effective practice for pupils who are struggling with their reading.

This session will consider how to motivate pupils to read and the importance of 'finding a way in', particularly for older pupils who are struggling with their reading. It will draw on recent research regarding pupils with SEND and reading and will give a range of practical strategies to supporting pupils to start reading, build confidence and develop fluency.

SPECIAL OFFER - Delegates who attend PIV408 PIVATS: Supporting Pupils Struggling with Writing, will be charged £150 for both courses
