Course Aims:
• Understand the school swimming programme of study and National Curriculum expectations.
• Recognise how swimming and water safety can be taught to meet statutory school swimming outcomes.
• Adapt swimming lesson progressions to meet a range of learning needs.
• Assess pupil progress across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 using the Lancashire PE Passport platform.
• Understand how health and safety considerations impact the organisation and delivery of school swimming provision
This course is designed for PE subject leaders, class teachers and teaching assistants who support children during school swimming. The day develops subject knowledge and confidence by exploring how to teach swimming progressions and how to structure effective learning using the Swim England Swim Charter stages 1–6.
Participants will examine planning, sequencing learning, and assessing pupil progress, with opportunities to observe and assist during a real school swimming session. Delegates will work poolside (no need to enter the water), so appropriate clothing is required.
Attendees should bring their school swimming provider’s Service Level Agreement.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
