Course Aims:
- To understand the range of barriers that learners may experience in maths, including difficulties with number sense, working memory and anxiety
- To recognise how these barriers appear in classroom practice and consider how to support pupils in ways that promote confidence and engagement
- To explore inclusive, high quality maths teaching strategies—such as scaffolding, explicit modelling and structured practice—that benefit all learners
- To build a practical set of approaches for supporting understanding and reducing cognitive load, while maintaining appropriate challenge and independence
- To apply these strategies to everyday maths lessons, ensuring classroom routines and explanations enable all pupils to access and succeed in the curriculum
