Course Aims:
- To develop confidence in using key mathematical vocabulary, notation and command words, enabling TAs to better support pupils in understanding and communicating mathematics
- To understand how models, manipulatives and visual representations can support conceptual understanding, and how TAs can use them to scaffold learning effectively
- To apply evidence-informed questioning and prompting techniques that promote reasoning, independence and mathematical thinking
- To recognise common misconceptions in early secondary maths and use simple, high-impact strategies to address them without taking over the learning
- To explore practical approaches for effective TA–teacher collaboration, helping to create consistent routines that support pupil success in maths

This course is suitable for TAs supporting pupils in the secondary maths classroom.
