Course Aims
•Provide practical, evidence-informed strategies to support inclusion in whole-class maths lessons
•Share approaches for adapting tasks, questioning, and expectations to meet a wide range of needs
•Strengthen subject knowledge in teaching foundational maths concepts in a developmentally appropriate way
•Build awareness of common barriers to maths learning for children with SEND (e.g. working memory, language, processing difficulties)
•Identify the small, incremental steps needed to support mathematical development below Year Group Expectations (YGE)
Supporting children who are working well below age-related expectations in maths can feel challenging, but with the right understanding and strategies, it can become both manageable and impactful.
This course provides a range of practical strategies to adapt teaching, scaffold learning, and create inclusive maths environments where all pupils can succeed. From strengthening early number sense to using concrete and pictorial representations effectively, this course bridges theory and classroom practice.
This course will leave delegates with greater confidence, clarity, and a toolkit of approaches they can use immediately.
