Course Aims:
- To explore research-informed practice that best supports the development of high-quality transactional writing
- To provide a practical toolkit of strategies for teaching effective transactional writing
- To support colleagues in applying strategic approaches to improve student confidence and resilience when writing at length,
- To help colleagues develop coherent curriculum sequencing to ensure progression of writing skills across the English curriculum
- To examine how students can produce high-quality, top grade non-fiction responses at GCSE

This course will support colleagues who wish to strengthen their toolkit of strategies for improving students' transactional writing. Delegates will explore how high-quality exemplars can be used to build students' understanding of what effective non-fiction writing looks like. The course will also examine how explicit, detailed teaching of the writing process (planning, composing and editing), of specific sentence structures for effect and of powerful expressive vocabulary over time can create dynamic, well-crafted non-fiction writing. Time will be given for delegates to consider how thoughtful curriculum sequencing of specific writing components can secure strong writing skills and enable students to produce high-quality, impactful outcomes at GCSE.
