Course Aims:
- To deepen teachers' understanding of how writing is taught at Key Stage 2
- To strengthen teachers' knowledge of the end of Key Stage 2 writing assessment including the features of writing that meet and exceed the expected standard
- To develop teachers' expertise in explicitly teach the writing process - planning, composing and editing- as relevant to their subject disciplines
- To explore how whole-school approaches can support the teaching of foundational writing components such as handwriting, accurate spelling and accurate punctuation
- To enhance teachers' understanding of how to teach specific sentence structures to improve disciplinary writing

Strong foundational writing skills are essential for students’ long-term academic success, and every subject has a role to play in developing them. This course supports teachers across the curriculum to help students refine their handwriting, spell accurately, construct effective sentences, and produce extended writing that is appropriately structured, precise in vocabulary and suited to disciplinary expectations.

A key focus of the course is helping teachers identify and respond to the individual writing needs of their students. Through practical strategies and subject-specific approaches, participants will learn how to provide targeted support that enables all learners to improve their writing and achieve high academic standards.
