Course Aims:
- To support a robust, strategic approach to developing oracy across the curriculum
- To explore what knowledge components might underpin a school's oracy curriculum for both exploratory talk and presentational talk
- To explore a variety of generic teaching and learning strategies that would support quality talk in the classroom
- To support effective short-term and long-term development plans for quality oracy across the curriculum
Quality reading and writing both exist on a rich sea of talk. The development of students' oracy skills is therefore fundamental to their academic success, but also to young people's outcomes in life. Drawing on key research such as the Ofsted research report 'Telling the Story' and the Oracy Education Commission's report 'We Need to Talk', this course will explore how schools can create a culture of talk across the curriculum. Through a strategic and well-planned approach, it examines how all teachers can effectively nurture both exploratory and presentational talk, ensuring that oracy becomes a consistent, high-quality feature of everyday classroom practice and meet the demands of the new National Curriculum.
