This package programme builds on the teaching and learning in the Red Rose Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 Spelling Programmes. It is based on the National Curriculum Spelling requirements for Year 5 and Year 6.

Following a hugely successful roll-out of the spelling programmes from 2023-2026, the Primary English and Literacy Team at Lancashire Professional Development Service are offering a comprehensive spelling programme based on the National Curriculum requirements for spelling with Year 5 into Year 6 with a CPD package. This planning programme has been developed using the expertise of experts at LPDS.

The package cost for one delegate is £375 and includes CPD for three half days (two half days in Autumn 2026 and one half day in Autumn 2027) and the full planning programme.

The package cost for two delegates is £450 and includes CPD for three half days (two half days in Autumn 2026 and one half day in Autumn 2027) and the full planning programme.

The planning programme includes a progression trajectory for Year 5 into Year 6 spelling based on the National Curriculum, across four terms, half termly overviews, planning for three sessions per week, word banks, and games and activities. The programme planning builds on Red Rose Y3 Spelling and Red Rose Y4 Spelling into Red Rose Year 5 and Year 6 Spelling.

The planning programme materials will be provided each term for delegates across the year, in conjunction with the CPD days.

Red Rose Spelling has now been rolled out from Year 2 to Year 4 in our school. We use Bug Club for phonics but selected the Red Rose Spelling Programmes after hearing the impact from local schools in our cluster. We are delighted with the engagement and progress so far. The children love sessions and tell us off if we miss one! We already use the Red Rose Phase 1 programme and when our budget allows and the time is right for our school, we will be moving to Red Rose Letters and Sounds to ensure complete consistency from Nursery to Year 6.
