This course provides an opportunity for subject leaders to:
• consider effective practice for leading writing in the primary school underpinned by current statutory and non-statutory guidance
• examine writing as defined by the National Curriculum for curriculum pathways in order to ensure progression of skills and outcomes across year groups and key stages
• explore approaches for modelling, scaffolding and independence in writing
• reflect on current practice with colleagues, and identify next steps for implementation towards impact in school
At present, writing continues to be a key focus for most primary schools. This course will support subject leaders in auditing writing, identifying areas for development, discussing strategies to address these, and formulating next steps. Participants will receive a comprehensive toolkit to support the role of leading writing which will be explored during the course.
This course provided many practical approaches and exploration of the writing health check document created by the team. Thoroughly enjoyed it and feel much more confident to implement writing improvements in my school. SL delegate 2026.
This course was the most useful CPD I have attended in my role as English Subject Leader. Brilliant resources and excellent advice from the very approachable and friendly consultants. Would recommend this course to every Subject Leader. SL delegate 2026.
