Join Mr P as he explores how tech can and should be used in the EYFS classroom—not as a replacement for play or connection, but as a tool to enhance learning and reduce unnecessary workload. Teachers will unpack common barriers to effective tech use and gain clarity around how AI actually works, how to use it ethically, and how to embrace it with confidence. With plenty of EYFS specific examples, from streamlining planning to creating engaging learning experiences, the session will equip teachers with real tools, ideas and strategies they can use straight away in their setting.
After the keynote address delegates will also attend two workshops.
Workshop 1 - Early Computing: Preparing Children for a Digital Future - Rob Musker, LPDS
Children are being brought up in a technology-rich world that influences many aspects of their lives. We need to provide children with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world successfully. Although the technology element has been removed as an Early Learning Goal, there is still a need to develop early computing skills and provide the prior learning needed by children for computing at KS1. This session looks at how this can be achieved successfully by linking to other areas of the EYFS framework including sharing our current key learning.
Workshop 2 - Online Safety and Toxic Influences - Understanding concerns regarding the digital journey of young children - Nigel Kirkham, LPDS
The rapid progression of technology in the modern world is having a significant impact on us all, offering significant changes to many aspects of daily life. Whilst many of these changes are positive, the digital/online world needs to be treated with some element of caution especially with respect to young children.
OFCOM's published statistics suggest that many children on the 3-5yrs age range are using internet enabled devices with some research suggesting that 2-year-olds are entering the range.
This session will explore some of the research findings that we need to consider ensuring children are getting a balanced introduction to the world around them (real and digital) and to beware of some of the negatives that may impact their early development and into later life.
