- To explore the professional understanding and skills needed to develop students’ metacognitive knowledge
- To explore how to explicitly teach metacognitive strategies including how to plan, monitor and evaluate students' own learning
- How to model your own thinking to help students develop their skills
- How to teach students to organise and effectively manage their learning, independently
- To provide an opportunity for delegates to plan a course of action in their own school

This course is intended for Headteachers, Deputy Headteachers, Assistant Headteachers, subject leaders or responsibility holding teachers who are responsible for developing and improving whole school learning and teaching. Teachers who have identified metacognition and independence in learning as an area for improvement would also benefit from the course.
