The course will explore the following:
- Key barriers commonly faced by pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and practical solutions for overcoming these.
- Key messages from research and data, and the implications of these for school culture and classroom practice.
- Practical strategies for closing stubborn attainment gaps in disadvantaged groups.
- Findings from schools who are successfully closing these gaps.

This timely course will consider the challenges facing so many of our children, young people and families and the impact this is having on learning and attainment.
It will consider the importance of building positive relationships and of prior and formative assessment and will examine a range of strategies for addressing the challenges many of our pupils face due to low resilience, language barriers, lack of self-efficacy and access to wider opportunities.
There will be opportunities to share successful strategies which schools have already implemented and reflect on how these can be further enhanced and developed.
