Course Aims:
• Understand how to teach the four swimming strokes effectively.
• Break down each swimming stroke into clear progressions to support successful teaching.
• Deliver swimming and water safety in a way that meets National Curriculum school swimming outcomes.
• Confidently adapt lesson progressions to meet a wide range of pupils’ learning needs.
• Recognise how health and safety considerations impact the organisation and delivery of a school swimming programme.
This follow on course builds on the foundations of Everything You Need to Know for School Swimming and is designed for PE subject leaders, class teachers and teaching assistants who support children during school swimming sessions. The day combines theory with extensive practical experience, focusing on how to break down and teach the National Curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety with confidence.
Participants will explore planning, sequencing of learning and assessment using the Swim England Swim Charter stages 1–6, gaining a deeper understanding of how to support pupils’ progress effectively. As the course includes practical work in the pool, delegates must be confident swimmers and prepared to take part in all water based activities.
