1. Understand the roles and responsibilities involved in supporting and leading high quality PE as a new subject leader.
2. Build understanding of the National Curriculum for Physical Education at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 to strengthen curriculum design and planning.
3. Understand key aspects of health and safety in Physical Education, including safe practice and risk awareness.
4. Understand approaches for assessing and tracking pupil progress across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
5. Explore practical methods for improving the quality of PE, school sport and physical activity across the wider school to help with wider school priorities and whole child development.

This two day course is designed specifically for new PE subject leaders who are ready to build confidence, clarity and practical skill in leading high quality Physical Education across their school. The programme explores the vital role of the subject leader in raising standards, promoting high expectations and ensuring all pupils receive a broad, balanced and progressive PE curriculum.

Delegates will gain a secure understanding of PE policies, health and safety, curriculum planning, assessment and national expectations at EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The course also provides essential guidance on the PE and School Sport Premium, focusing on how funding can be used effectively and how its impact can be measured and evidenced.

Through a blend of theory, discussion and practical activity, participants will develop the knowledge and tools needed to lead staff, support pupils and implement strategies that drive improvement in PE, school sport and whole school outcomes.

A practical component is included—please dress appropriately. A short task is required between Day 1 and Day 2.
