Course Aims
•To identify the objectives and expectations of the mathematics curriculum for Years Five and Six.
•To enhance mathematics subject knowledge and pedagogy around curriculum content within these year groups.
•To consider how to develop conceptual understanding in upper Key Stage Two.

This course will provide ECTs teaching in Years 5 and 6 with the specialist knowledge to teach mathematics effectively irrespective of what scheme is being used. The Early Career Framework states that:
- secure subject knowledge helps teachers to motivate and teach effectively.
- anticipating common misconceptions within particular subjects is an important aspect of curricular knowledge.
The session will cover all areas of the national curriculum for mathematics, supporting teachers with the subject knowledge required for effective teaching, ideas for developing children’s conceptual understanding and ways to make links between the different aspects of mathematics.
