  • Gemma Whaling (Primary School Adviser)
  • Charlotte Emmott (Primary School Adviser)

•This programme aims to support the development of future headteachers in Lancashire at all phases and settings.
•Successful participants move through a modular route with a mixture of face to face conferences, online training, and coaching sessions.
•To ensure that the programme is undertaken at a point when delegates have sufficient experience and knowledge to benefit most from it, those wishing to join the programme will be invited to have a short, informal discussion to ensure the programme is tailored to the needs of the cohort. This will take place in the 1st week of December.

1-year course includes the following elements:
• Introductory twilight and self-evaluation against the Headteacher Standards
• 2 separate leadership conference days
• School based school improvement project.
• Completion of a portfolio of work
• Coaching sessions in trios facilitated by an adviser
• Additional twilight meetings - relevant to the needs of the cohort
Testimonials from previous participants:
"The LPH programme was a really valuable experience. It gave me the opportunity to network and collaborate with fantastic deputy heads while deepening my understanding of key areas essential for headship, such as finance and HR. One of the highlights was working in a supportive trio alongside an advisor—this structure fostered rich discussions and meaningful support throughout the year-long course.
A major advantage of the programme was its flexibility. Rather than adding to my workload, it aligned seamlessly with my school’s whole school improvement plan, allowing my chosen project to directly benefit my setting. This practical approach made the learning immediately relevant and impactful. I’d highly recommend the LPH to any aspiring headteacher."
"I would recommend the LPH course to anyone who is at the point of applying for a headship post.
The LPH teaches you how to take the theoretical knowledge and transfer it into real-life situations. Sessions on OFSTED and EYFS were thorough and relevant and the handouts were designed in a way for you to use as a reference point in the future.
The headteacher that came to speak to us was inspirational, practical and brutally honest. She gave us an insight into her world and how she leads her staff in challenging circumstances.
The networking and peer support you receive, continues long after the course has finished. Friendships are built as you meet and work in small groups. Someone who is navigating a similar path to you can be just what you need at the end of a phone at the end of a very long day. "
