Support EYFS practitioners to develop calm, predictable and emotionally safe environments through a relational, developmentally appropriate and trauma informed approach.
Participants will explore how to teach routines and expectations explicitly and respond to behaviour in ways that reduce escalation, promote calm, and support children’s capacity to regulate.
The session also considers how emotionally safe, scaffolded environments underpin the Characteristics of Effective Learning and support children to work towards the Early Learning Goal for Self Regulation.

By the end of the session, participants will:
• Understand behaviour as communication and recognise what children may be expressing through their actions
• Explore the role of attachment, trauma and early experiences in shaping behaviour
• Identify how the EYFS environment and high quality provision can reduce dysregulation
• Understand how consistent, clearly taught routines help children feel safe, regulated and ready for learning
• Strengthen consistency of practice, expectations and language across the EYFS team
• Recognise how emotionally safe environments support the Characteristics of Effective Learning
• Understand how relational practice supports children’s progress towards the Early Learning Goal for Self Regulation
