This comprehensive course is designed to deepen understanding of the Characteristics of Effective Learning and the seven areas of learning within the EYFS. It offers a practical and inspiring journey that will strengthen curriculum design, enhance classroom practice, and enrich the learning experiences of young children. Through the lens of Intent, Implementation, and Impact, participants will clarify what they want children to learn, how to deliver this effectively, and how to evaluate the difference their curriculum is making.
Intent
We begin by exploring the question: What are you trying to achieve for children?
Participants will develop clear, purposeful intent statements that reflect their school’s values, context, and pedagogy. Sessions will support practitioners to identify what their children need most and align this with the EYFS Statutory Framework. Key messages for shaping a long term, progressive curriculum will also be explored.
Implementation
We then look at how intent becomes day to day practice. This includes practical curriculum planning and identifying essential knowledge, skills, and understanding across all seven areas of learning. Participants will consider how to balance adult led teaching with child initiated learning to ensure children are well prepared for the next stage of education.
A significant focus is placed on creating purposeful indoor and outdoor learning environments that inspire curiosity and independence. The course also highlights the role of high quality texts in promoting language, imagination, and a love of reading. Further elements include planning enrichment opportunities, building strong partnerships with parents, and understanding the crucial role of the adult in facilitating, observing, assessing, and extending learning.
Impact
Finally, we examine What difference is it making?
Participants will explore manageable ways to evidence progress, alongside strategies for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of their EYFS curriculum so it meets the needs of each cohort.
This interactive programme also supports Reception teachers and colleagues in understanding the newest expectations in early learning, including updates linked to the latest Ofsted framework. Each session includes dedicated time to explore the new Key Learning Document for all seven areas of learning, helping practitioners strengthen their understanding of progression, curriculum design, and high quality practice.
Colleagues are encouraged to attend in pairs to support shared reflection and consistent implementation back in school. As a sustained package of CPD, this course offers long term value, practical strategies, and continuous development across the year. Each session builds on the last, supporting improvements in intent, implementation, and impact.
The programme concludes with a personalised visit to your setting, providing an opportunity to celebrate progress, observe developments, and plan next steps. With expert guidance and a supportive learning community, the course promises a transformative experience.
