  • Izabela Zalewska-Ratajczak (EAL Consultancy and Support Teacher)

• To understand the needs of different EAL pupils, including advanced learners
• To understand how to adapt curriculum teaching to developing learners' proficiency in English
• To learn how to use quick, formative checks to identify language needs and adapt instruction in the moment
• To develop practical strategies and access resources that support the effective application of adaptive teaching principles

Adaptive teaching recognises that EAL learners are not a single group—they come with diverse backgrounds, strengths, prior knowledge, and language needs. It ensures that every learner can participate meaningfully, make progress, and feel confident in the classroom. It is not about lowering expectations; it is about removing barriers, providing the right level of support, and ensuring that EAL learners can participate fully and confidently in classroom learning.
This course is ideal for teachers with EAL pupils within their class or for EAL coordinators who want to lead on developing practice in this area within their school. It could also be beneficial for HLTAs who are responsible for adapting teaching for EAL pupils.
